API Category · Tax & Compliance
Confirm a GSTIN is real, active and belongs to the business in front of you — and find the registrations a PAN holds that the customer did not mention.
In short
A GST verification API validates a GSTIN against GSTN records and returns the registered legal name, trade name, registration status and jurisdiction. FinHub also resolves every GST registration held against a PAN, which matters because one business can hold a separate registration in each state it operates in.
- Validate a GSTIN and return legal name, trade name and status
- Resolve all GST registrations held against a single PAN
- Filing and compliance signals for credit assessment
- Consent artefact on every call and a tamper-evident audit trail

Why does one business have more than one GSTIN?
GST registration is state-wise. A business operating in four states holds four GSTINs, all built on the same PAN. This surprises teams who assume a GSTIN identifies a business the way a CIN does.
It matters for underwriting. If you validate the single GSTIN a customer supplied, you have verified one state's operation. Resolving from the PAN instead shows you the full footprint — including registrations in states the customer did not mention, which is often the more informative answer.
What does GST data tell you about a borrower?
For MSME lending, GST is frequently the most current view of a business you can get. Financial statements are annual and lag; GST filing is periodic and reflects recent trading.
Registration status and filing regularity are the signals that carry. A registration that has been suspended or cancelled, or a filing history with gaps, is a legitimate input to a credit decision — and it is verifiable against the source rather than self-declared.
Treat it as one input among several. A business can be entirely healthy and file late, and a registration in good standing says nothing about the quality of the receivables behind it.
Terms
Terms worth getting right
The distinctions that decide whether a flow stands up under examination.
- GSTIN
- A 15-character Goods and Services Tax Identification Number: two digits of state code, the entity's ten-character PAN, an entity number for that state, a fixed character and a checksum.
- Legal name vs trade name
- The legal name is the registered entity name; the trade name is what the business operates as. They frequently differ, and matching against only one is a common source of false mismatches.
